Verifying Mental Health: Things You Need To Remind Yourself Everyday

There are a lot of life problems that perhaps you are dealing with right now. Some might not be that complicated that you can shrug off if you want, while others a bit pain in the ass. Well, it is not always that you understand everything that is happening to you. Most of the time, you lose control. But that should not become your reason to quit fighting for inner peace and happiness. You must exert a lot of time and effort into verifying your mental health. And to do that, you need a couple of daily reminders.

Reminder #1: People’s Opinion Do Not Matter

Life is already too short to think about what others would say. Of course, few people will question your behavior, decisions, and progress in everything you do. That shouldn’t matter. If their words do not contribute to your overall development, then it is useless. You don’t need to listen to it because it will only drag and slow you down. Instead, work your way through the top by bringing focus, determination, and positivity altogether.

Reminder #2: You Are Your Worst Enemy

There is no best feeling in the world than getting the most of your worth. It gives you strength and encouragement to become a better version of yourself. However, the thing you should frequently remember is that your progress is yours alone. You are your worst enemy. Change your perspective, not because you need to please other people. You don’t owe them an effort in proving they are wrong and you are right. Do things because you want it and not because you want others to notice it.

Reminder #3: Positivity Is A Choice

You do not always appreciate yourself for doing the best you can. Of course, there are a lot of things you can’t do. But that is the beauty of life. It allows you to work on the things you thought you couldn’t until you finally achieve it. It takes perseverance and consistency before you can reach your dreams. With that, you must choose positivity. Your optimism is the key to keeping you on track. It helps in better management of your physical, emotional, and mental health.

Reminder #4: Love Your Imperfections

No matter how appreciative and motivated you are, you cannot easily overcome life’s challenges if you don’t love your flaws. Honestly, there is nothing to overcome because your undesirable features are part of your personality and character. But it would be best if you reminded yourself that you should use it to your advantage. Never look at your imperfection as something that hinders you from succeeding. Instead, consider it as an indication of your uniqueness.

Reminder #5: Let Go Of The Past

An important reminder that you should always consider telling yourself daily is to let go of the past. Everything you did yesterday or the days before should be forgotten. Your past is just a portion of your life. There is not much to hold into it. Thus, you need to remind yourself that the battle you need face is right in front of you. Yes, you can still rely on your past experiences and get the best of the lessons in it. But that should be it. Do not let your past experiences dictate your future.

Reminder #6: You Are Not Alone

The problem with most people like you is that you often think that your life struggles are yours alone. That what you are dealing with is unique and is only intended for you. Sorry to break it, but everything that happens in your life is already someone else’s past, present, and perhaps future battle. Meaning, you are not the only individual who has problems. Thus, remind yourself to be kind to others as they are also secretly battling with their own demons.

Reminder #7: It’s Okay Not To Be Okay

There are things in life you can never have, can never understand, and can never achieve. That is the reality. That is why you need to strive hard. It would help if you try and remind yourself that it is okay not to be okay. You don’t have to convince everybody that you are brave enough to face everything. Allow yourself to feel scared, worried, lonely, and stressed. You don’t have to lie and make everyone believe that you are better off alone. Cry if you want to cry and seek help if you must.

Reminder #8: You Are Loved

Never think in your entire life that you are not appreciated and unloved. You are loved. Everything you do makes other people happy. You might not see it, but you give them a purpose to live. Your existence alone already brings an impact on their behaviors, reactions, beliefs, and overall wellness. You are someone else’s source of strength and happiness.

Positive Ways To Recover From A Dysfunctional Family After Leaving Home

Growing up in a dysfunctional family is not something that we all understand. Most of the time, we get to experience judgments and criticism for having unsupportive and uncaring individuals. It makes us feel that life is unfair. But dealing with this kind of family is never a linear process. So even if we happen to move away from them or went on to adulthood, it doesn’t mean we can get away from their memories. Honestly, it lingers every time we see other families out in public or watch a film that entirely hits home.

In most dysfunctional families, some wounds are fresh and deep that no matter what we do, there is no escaping the emotional and mental sorrow we have. It has something to do with a lot of things to patch even though everything still hurts. And one thing is for sure; it is not easy to get going and live each day of our lives knowing that we have unsolved issues with the individuals that are supposed to be there for us. So we can all agree that not all of us are privileged to have a family that understands and supports each other. Fortunately, there are ways to recover from this dysfunctional emotional attachment.

Get Rid Of Things That Remind Painful Memory

One way we can recover from a traumatic experience from a dysfunctional family is by getting rid of possessions that bring up bad times. These may include gifts, photos, and sentimental items. Yes, it can be challenging at times because there is this attachment that we value more than anything. But for us to emotionally and mentally heal, we also need to remind ourselves that throwing away these items is much far better. Instead of clinging into something we know can bring back sad memories, we have a choice to create a new one.

Replace Negative Thoughts With Self-Awareness

Our brains work with patterns. That explains why even the most destructive habits become impossible to break. When there is emotional, verbal, and physical abuse from family members, we often grow up with low self-esteem. Most of us also experience image issues. And even after we moved out and spent a little time with our toxic family, we still see their reflection in us. We still view ourselves the same way our family members did. This mentality should stop. Thus, we need to realize that we do not equate to any of our family’s toxicity. We have to be aware of our self-worth so we can fall back from negative thinking.

Know That We Deserve Better

After experiencing traumatic events from our dysfunctional family, our instinct is to ignore and curl up in a ball. Most times, those painful experiences make us retreat from the world. We get emotionally drained and exhausted that we often find ourselves in tears. Sometimes, we get used to the routine that anxiety and depression have given us. But it shouldn’t have to be that way. We need to recognize that we deserve better. We deserve love, care, and support. If our families are not open to providing us the support we need, there is no point asking for it anymore. We need to be brave enough to tell ourselves that these individuals are not going to help us. Thus, there is no point in keeping them inside our comfort zones.

Spend Time With Supportive People

In a time where we deem everything is falling apart, we must reach out to people. They could be out friends, colleagues, and partners. We need to let them know that we need them more than ever. Honestly, it is okay to feel embarrassed about having a dysfunctional family. No one is ever proud of having them in their lives. But the most important thing is not our past, but rather what we contribute to our future. So if we want a little push, we have to spend more time with people that value and appreciate us.  That way, we can focus on giving more than we can, instead of complaining about what we don’t have.

Appreciate Ourselves Even More

We need to become more accepting of our flaws and appreciate our talents and potentials. That way, we can show the world that despite growing up with a dysfunctional family, we can become the best of who we are. And despite all the negative things in our lives, we need to show everyone that it will never become the basis of our future. Please don’t assume that everything that happened in the past is our fault. We have to tell ourselves that it is okay to live with pain. We need to acknowledge that we have the potential to change everything in our lives. That regardless of having a dysfunctional family, we are not going to let that influence others to think about us negatively.

Ways To Attract Positivity In Your Home Amid COVID-19

Admit or not, a lot of us are getting anxious and stressed with COVID-19. We don’t know what the future holds, and there are a lot of restrictions that we need to face for safety reasons.

“This anxiety brings with it powerful symptoms such as chronic worry, restlessness, insomnia, feelings of dread, tense muscles, irritability, and a tremendous urge to defeat a threat. It can be exhausting. It can make us hurt. It can even make us feel sad or hopeless. Anxiety can feel like a malevolent force trying to attack our well-being–like it is trying to torture us,” shares Dr. Eric Goodman, Ph.D., anxiety disorders and OCD specialist.

There are various ways to combat this problem. However, the best way to do so is to start at the four corners of your house. Read on to know the best ways to attract positivity in your home using the principles of feng shui

Front Door

The front door is the most critical aspect of your home, as it’s the first thing you pass through when going inside. It should be in the best condition since it is a representation of wealth. The most effective way to draw the money energy towards your entrance is to light either side of the door. Place a plant in the area as well. You may go with evergreens since these are the ideal plants for your front door.

Doors And Windows

Your doors and windows are the media that connect us, the home, and the outside. These are the entry and exit points of both good and bad vibes, so you need to take good care of it. To prevent the positivity from escaping, you must clean the said openings at least once a week. You must also place a stone that will attract good energy. Here’s how to go about this.

  1. Mix lemon juice and white vinegar in a pot of water.
  2. Place white quartz stones in the mixture.
  3. Let it stay for the entire night under the moonlight.
  4. Throw away the liquid and put the rocks in every opening of your home.

Do not forget to open the windows at least twice a day to let natural light and fresh air enter. This technique will renew the circulating air inside.

Hallway

A lot of people disregard the hallway, but this represents opportunities. Therefore, if you want energy to circulate, make sure that this place is clutter-free. It will help if you put all your coats, shoes, toys, and other things inside a closed cabinet so that they do not contribute to energy stagnation.

Place a beautiful mirror on the hall as well to activate the beneficial fee. Fresh flowers will also help in uplifting the space’s energy.

Floors

Do you know that salt is an excellent cleanser, not only physically, but energy-wise as well? It gets rid of all the negativity circulating inside your house and promotes positive energy flow.

To start, mix seven tablespoons of salt in a pot full of water. Use the said concoction to wipe the floors of your house. Should there be areas with a carpet on it, just spread a little salt and let it do its magic for an hour. You can then vacuum this after the said time range.

Kitchen

The kitchen does not only provide food for our stomach, but it also represents food for the soul. The energy in this area keeps nourishment and relationship as healthy as possible.

Do not face the cooker to the sink as this promotes arguments between couples. The reason behind this is that each creates fire and water, and these elements crash. Also, consider the colors of the kitchen. Avoid placing too much red and black since it also causes a battle between water and fire.

Lastly, the cooker’s position will determine the nourishment of the people living in the house. Make sure that it is not positioned opposite the front door or under the window.

Pyramids

Pyramids are one of the most potent attractors of positive energy from an esoteric point of view. These strengthen spiritual life, increase vitality, and fight bad vibrations.

It is advisable to place these pyramids in the dining and living room. Put it underneath a family photo and face it north to attract good vibes to every family member in the house. Please do not leave it near any appliance as it will absorb their negative energy.

With COVID-19 putting too much stress on our lives, it is necessary to keep our surroundings as positive as it can be. This strategy will help us eliminate the anxiety we receive from the pandemic. Just follow the tips above, and this transformation will bring good vibes and positivity.

Marriage 101:  Therapy Guides In Battling Marital Issues

Source: pixabay.com

Every little difference of opinion leads quickly to tension. Most attempts to discuss disagreements end in heightened conflict or avoiding each other. — LESLIE BECKER-PHELPS, PHD

Once in a while, our marriage tends to have different kinds of issues that may vitally affect our relationship not just with the people around us but also within ourselves. Most of the time, it creates a stressful situation that limits our productivity due to the mental health conditions that we can get out of frustrations from our relationships. That is why couples need to address the issue and learn various techniques for assessing marital concerns.

Though therapy works wonders and often helps us in dealing with= our marital problems, not all advice applies to all. Some differ depending on the type of issue that they need to resolve. However, there’s still a list of things that married couples should understand. Before they address the issues in their marriage, they need to assess themselves first.

Find Happiness

The truth about a relationship is that you can’t stay committed unless you find happiness in it. Knowing your reason for sticking in a relationship is a factor that can affect your sense of purpose to determine the kind of relationship you want. If your goal is just to settle with someone, but you don’t like to think about the consequences you may face, then marriage is not your option.

Love Yourself

You are incapable of loving someone when you don’t know how to love yourself. The idea of giving importance to your marriage is determining the kind of love you have for yourself. It is by defining how you value yourself as a person, how you respect your thoughts and ideas, and how you satisfy your desire to be in a relationship.

Contempt refers to one partner’s attempts to appear superior to the other. It can include name-calling (“you are such an idiot!”), using humor in a hostile manner, sarcasm, mocking, and eye-rolling. — Meredith Shirey, MS, LMFT

Be Open To Adjustment

Change is constant, and as your relationship with your partner evolves, you have to consider adjustments. Not that you have to become a person that you’re not supposed to be, but it’s a sense of becoming someone who develops skills and potentials that are useful in handling marital issues. Always remember that both of you don’t have to be perfect.

Be Honest With Yourself

Sometimes, your love for commitment blocks you from seeing damaging factors that affect your marriage. If you tend to ignore the warning signs, you may eventually end up losing everything. You have to be honest about yourself and accept that things are not okay. From there, learn and develop better ways that can help you choose what’s right for you and your partner.

Money issues are very common among the couples and if you ever lie about overspendings then it will become difficult to gain that trust again further leading to marriage breakdown. So, being honest in a relationship is a must to keep the love alive forever. — Robert Puff Ph.D.

Know What You Want

Nobody has the right to force you to get married or stay in a marriage for a long time. You need to understand that every decision matters. Therefore, you have to know what you want in order to know what you need. You have to realize that your relationship requires your full commitment if you want it to succeed.

You as a person should understand your responsibilities when in a marriage. Everything negative and positive that happens in your situation is the products of both your decisions. Both of you should have time to assess yourselves and understand the need for self-evaluation.

Therapy 101: Happiness And Its Different Forms

Source: pixabay.com

To be able to understand how we can be happy, we need to consider looking at ourselves and realize how we think. Most of the time, our happiness comes from a variety of things that determine our wants and needs. However, happiness is not always limited to specific amounts because the emotional correlation of attaining something might differ in some ways.

I’m always struck by people who seem genuinely content, who focus on what’s good in their lives. — Seth J. Gillihan Ph.D.

Excitement

Happiness always comes from something we want to obtain. It has something to do with the fulfillment of physically having an essential object that we long to have. It can be new clothes, gadgets, food we eat, and the list goes on. In most cases, we determine happiness because of the baseline of our measurable goal. However, the feeling is temporary, and we end up looking for more. It somehow puts us back to our original level of happiness once we realize the value of that piece of thing. So it’s better to say that the pleasure we get from the objects we want is the reaction from the excitement of literally wanting it.

Fulfillment

As far as emotional correlation is the concern, we tend to look for things that make us feel satisfied. It’s where we put the value of something we want from our surroundings without any social interaction. Some examples would be watching our favorite movies, eating at our favorite restaurants, cleaning the house, getting enough sleep, doing exercise, learning arts, etc. We base our happiness on the things that we do for ourselves that requires less attention and do not affect the other aspects of our lives. It mainly comes from the fulfillment we feel when completing a particular task.

Research has shown that the difference between people who are flourishing and those who aren’t lies in the magnitude of positive emotions they are able to self-generate from everyday pleasant activities (e.g., social interactions, learning, helping others). — Marianna Pogosyan Ph.D.

Satisfaction

Another form of happiness is from the result of what we can get out of our zone. It has something to do with our daily involvement in our environment that our decisions can affect. It is the type of happiness that measures our sense of responsibility to what we can offer our lives that somehow create an impact on our situation. Some examples are finishing work early, attaining good grades, getting a promotion, ending an appointment meeting, and so on. It’s all about the happiness that you get from pushing your limits.

Appreciation

The most common type of happiness we know is the form of emotional attachment from social interaction. Though this is a broad scope, it does not limit us from attaining happiness in different ways. At some point, we tend to be happy just by knowing that others are feeling the same way. The idea that people show their appreciation towards us and allowing us to know that our existence matters to them, it will all come down to a conclusion that our happiness is what other people can give us with or without the assumption of getting it back in return.

What you speak tends to stem from what you think. The words that come out of your mouth are either portraying your current state of mind, or they may end up influencing the way you think. — Jacqueline Pearce, MSEd, LMHC

Answering a question of “what makes you happy” depends on what’s important in front of you. So if sometimes you think or feel like you can’t find enough reasons to stay focused on your happiness, you can check out its different types and make room for therapy and meditation. It will positively help you understand yourself way better.

True Happiness Concept: Why It Isn’t About Being Happy 24/7

The verdict on the concept of true happiness is down, and it isn’t about being on cloud nine or oozing with positivity all the time.

I’ve watched Inside Out with my kids (aged nine, seven and three) far more times than my fingers could count. But the realization it teaches me every time I see this film never gets old (and the way it makes me cry never fails!).
